Girth weld sleeve

Reli Sleeve provides a variety of alternatives to pipeline maintenance needs. The girth weld sleeve is one such option. With the girth weld sleeves, repairs can be made without shutting down the pipeline. We manufacture girth weld sleeves of all sizes, wall thickness, and grades of steel plates which are to ASTM certifications as well as a longitudinal edge. Various grades and types of girth weld sleeves are manufactured by customizing as per client’s specification. Depending on the requirements of the customer, girth weld sleeves can be made from 4 available grades of steel. For instance, for leaking & non-leaking defects, pressure-rated steel sleeves are used whereas structural grade steel sleeves are used for reinforcement for a defective area. PROPERTIES OF GIRTH WELD SLEEVE

In the recent past, mishaps caused by low quality girth weld sleeve defects have relatively risen. The failure of girth weld is mostly fracture. It is an efficient way to avoid risks involved with girth weld sleeves to find the hidden trouble of girth weld and repair it in time before the failure. The type b girth weld sleeves is an effectual way to restore the girth weld defects. However, quite a few works have been carried out on the reliability verification and engineering practice of girth welds by our experts. Hence, we can claim with pride that we provide sturdy, high quality girth weld sleeve for multiple uses.

FEATURES OF GIRTH WELD SLEEVE

The Steel Repair Sleeves can be used for internal and external corrosion, gouges, dents, grooves, arc burns, cracks, defective girth welds, laminations and leaks. Pressure containing sleeves feature a wall thickness equal to or greater than required for the maximum allowable operating pressure or the full strength of the pipe being repaired. The Steel Repair Sleeve material is certified and the carbon equivalent (long formula) will not exceed 0.45 percent. Each half-sole segment comes with one pre-crimped back-up strip. Steel Repair Sleeves can be used as pads or cradles for above ground piping, drain tile supports and patches (segments in 90° and 180° arcs, from 6-inches to 10-feet in length are available as specials). Each Steel Repair Sleeve has standard, longitudinal bevels with a back-up strip and material certifications. Sleeve ends are square cut. Back-up strips are not included with standard girth weld steel sleeve

MATERIALS USED FOR GIRTH WELD SLEEVE

ASTM specifications are followed to manufacture girth weld sleeves from superior quality carbon steel plates. Structural quality carbon steel or pressure vessel quality carbon steel is used according to the usage and requirement of the client in the below-mentioned grades :

ASTM A572 GR50
ASTM A572 GR65
ASTM A516 GR70
ASTM A537 CL1

In addition to these, the sleeves can also be made in any custom grade as per the client usage.

COATING TYPES OF GIRTH WELD SLEEVE

Girth Weld Sleeve can be Internally and Externally Quoted with All Types of Liquid and Powder Coatings, few mention below –

Plasite 7159 PDS 1-07, Plasite 7159, 7409 PhenGuard 930, 7435 PhenGuard 935, 7436 PhenGuard 940, 7497 SigmaLine 2000, Enviroline 405HT, Hempadur 85671, Interline 850, Intertherm 228, Interzone 954, Sigmashield 1200, Corvel 10-6051, 3M Scotchkote 134 FBE, 3M Scotchkote 345, 3M Scotchkote XC 6171 etc.

Recommended Installation Procedure

  • Check pipe ends condition to ensure no damage. Clean dust, water, any contamination that would affect installation. Heat pipe ends to temperature 60-80℃ to remove moisture or water if detected any. Measure pipe inside diameter at least horizontally and vertically and shall be within allowance.
  • Coating on the pipe insert sleeve shall not be damaged, contaminated or having other negative defects. Make sure that the sealing rings, heat-resistance tape and other accessories are in well condition.
  • Mix epoxy mastic according to mixing ratio and strictly comply epoxy pot life after mixing as recommendation from manufacturer.
  • Apply epoxy mastic evenly onto the cleaned pipe internal cutback area with amount as recommended for each pipe size. The applied epoxy mastic shall form a good beam between sleeve end and pipe internal surface after installation of sleeve.
  • Insert the sleeve into one pipe end till the pins reach pipe bevel end. The inserting process shall be horizontally evenly pressing by hand. Insert the next prepared pipe end with epoxy to the correct sleeve until the pins reach pipe bevel end.
  • Comply with standard API 1104 or SAE31.1 chapter 9 for the welding procedures. Use lowest applicable heat setting of the welding machine. The welded area must be well ventilated and properly protected from inclement weather. Pipe coatings and epoxy may produce harmful fumes during the welding process. Product MSDS shall be referred during welding process.
  • If preheating is required, the heating can be done from pipe external after applying epoxy mastic however shall not exceed 120℃. Ground lead shall be attached mechanically to either pipe end, but never on sleeve tabs and shall never be welded or attached to the center of pipe. A pipe external clamp may be used for alignment and ends securing to weld tabs purposes.
  • All welding activities must be downhill at 7 to 10 inches (175 to 250mm) per minute. A weep hole of 0.5” to 1”(12.7 to 25.4mm) shall be left to allow expanding gases to escape. When crossing the welding tab, a weaving motion of the electrode must be made to insure complete melting.
  • Do not start intermediate passes until the weld has cooled down to 120℃ or lower. The weep hole can be closed at the beginning of the first filler pass. Apply as many passes as necessary to complete the weld and always keep downhill welding. Slags and other welding products shall be removed between passes.
